If you’re a fan of Stephenie Meyer (and even if you’re not), you’ll want to see the trailer for “The Host.” The latest film adaptation of her work about a parasitic alien invasion looks pretty cool.
In “The Host,” an alien parasite is injected into the body of Melanie Stryder (Saorise Ronan), but Melanie’s human emotions get in the way of the alien parasite’s mission to take over the world. It’s like “Animorphs” with the Yeerks, but minus the animal morphing bit.
Are you ready to get transported to the colorful land of Oz? The new Disney prequel to the popular Frank L. Baum story is due out in theaters March 8, 2013, and the full trailer of director Sam Raimi’s take is here.
In “Oz: The Great and Powerful,” we see a young Oscar (James Franco) travel to the magical land and meet three witches (Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams) who set him out on a spectacular journey. From the looks of the trailer, we have some of the expected imagery from the popular Judy Garland movie, but it also seems more rooted in the books than the original Wizard of Oz movie. Porcelain people, flying monkeys that talk and aren’t inherently evil and a whole lot more. Check out the vibrant trailer below:
Here at Midcoast Station, we love a good reunion and nothing has had us more excited than the reunion of Guided by Voice’s ‘classic 93-96′ lineup.
Guided by Voices (GBV) began in the 1980s and was influential for its lo-fi aesthetic and production methods. The band was prolific in its releases, but unfortunately, the band stopped touring in 2004. Then, what began as a special treat for Matador Records’ 21st anniversary party in 2010, Guided by Voices reunited its classic lineup and this reunion has since turned into two new albums and new tours for fans.
Currently, Guided by Voices is touring in support of its second new release since the reunion, Class Clown Spots a UFO. You can stream a song from the album and watch the video for the title track below.
Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
The band will be in Lawrence, Kansas, at the Granada on September 28, 2012. Buy tickets here and join us at the show.

Happy 111th birthday, Bilbo Baggins Edward Cullen. To celebrate the vampire everyone loves or loves to hate, Summit has released the first teaser trailer for the final chapter in the Twilight Saga: “Breaking Dawn: Part 2.”
In the film series’ conclusion, the Cullens family goes to war with the Volturi to protect the rapidly growing child of Edward (Robert Pattinson) and the now vampire Bella (Kristen Stewart).
“Breaking Dawn: Part 2″ will be in theaters November 16, 2012.
Confession – we just listened all the way through Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend” for the first time and loved it, but it wasn’t him performing. It was Wales’ Marina and The Diamonds performing a cover of Justin Bieber’s Boyfriend in the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge.
Marina makes a few alterations to the lyrics, adds a bit of heartache and ditches the rapping in this beautiful cover. It’s a shame this is just a cover — we would have loved to have had a studio version on her upcoming album, Electra Heart. Watch the “Boyfriend” cover below.
Electra Heart is due out in the UK on April 30 and will be released in the States in July.
Doctor Who is nearing its 50th anniversary and in its run since 1963, there have been lots of adventures, lots of episodes and lots of footage. Youtuber BabelColour has gone through all this Doctor Who footage and put together an amazing catalog of “every Doctor Who adventure from ‘An Unearthly Child’ in 1963 right up to ‘The Doctor, The Widow and the Wardrobe’ {2011} Christmas Special.”
Even though there are 106 episodes still missing from the BBC archives, BabelColour still represented those missing episodes by way of stills or reconstructions. BabelColour goes into greater detail about handcoloring footage and other decisions that helped make this video extra spectacular.
The video also splices together Doctor Who quotes and features music from the Eurhythmics.
