RIP Beaumont Club: Reports indicate Kansas City venue is closing down

Posted on 02 January 2013 by Bethany Smith

A well-known Kansas City venue, The Beaumont Club, is shutting its doors, numerous reports say. Though the venue owners have yet to release a statement, various news sites have reported the closure of the Beaumont Club: a Kansas City venue in Westport known for its local shows, rock and country concerts and various dance nights. beaumont club in kansas city

Reports began after some bands reported that they received letters announcing the cancellation of spring shows. Some shows such as the Take Action Tour have already been moved to neighboring venues such as the Granada in Lawrence, Kan.

Many have speculated that drops in attendance, rent costs and competition from other venues all contributed to the Beaumont Club’s closure. The Beaumont Club was one of the few medium-sized (500-800 capacity) indoor venues in Kansas City, but smaller venues such as the RecordBar and Riot Room, along with larger venues such as The Midland had been booking similar type of shows as the Beaumont Club in the previous months. Another speculation is that the safety of the Westport neighborhood could have been a factor.

We’ll post more information about this announcement and what it means for the currently scheduled shows as it becomes available.

Coheed and Cambria bassist arrested in bizarre Walgreens robbery; band won’t cancel shows

Posted on 12 July 2011 by Midcoast Station

God bless MF’n rock ‘n’ roll.

Monday, police arrested Michael Todd, original Coheed and Cambria bassist, shortly before the band was to open for Soundgarden. According to NY Daily News, Todd allegedly walked into a Walgreens in the Attleboro, Mass. area, demanded Oxycontin and claimed to have an explosive device in his possession.

After receiving six bottles of the narcotic, Todd jumped in a cab and headed straight for the venue. Todd previously left the band for a stint in ’06 due to a heroin addiction and returned in ’07. He’s known as the “screamer” on Coheed’s earlier albums.

Looks like this fella doesn’t mess around because if that’s not rock ‘n’ roll then I sure as shit don’t know what is. Dude needs to get lifted to open Soundgarden so he goes postal on a Walgreens for a fix? One word: baller.

The arrest is not going to affect Coheed and Cambria’s remaining tour dates. According to a statement from the band, Wes Styles will fill in on bass for the remaining dates. Their statement can be viewed here.

Missy Elliott releases official statement about Grave’s Disease diagnosis

Posted on 25 June 2011 by Bethany Smith

Since the public has found out that hip hop singer Missy Elliott has Grave’s Disease, an autoimmune where the thyroid is overactive, a lot of rumors and inaccuracies have been flying around. Missy Elliott has released the following statement to clear up some of the confusion:

“There have been some inaccuracies reported in regards to my diagnosis with Grave’s Disease, so I wanted to clear things up. I was diagnosed with Grave’s Disease about three years ago but it really hasn’t slowed me down at all. I rocked my performance on VH1 Hip Hop Honors’ tribute to Timbaland last year. I’ve written and produced a bunch of Grammy-nominated, #1 hits for artists like Keyshia Cole, Monica and Jasmine Sullivan. I toured the UK, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia. And on top of all that, I’m working on my new album. I feel great. Under my doctor’s supervision, I’ve been off medication for about a year and I’m completely managing the condition through diet and exercise.”
