Scottish rockers Franz Ferdinand crossed the great pond to pay Lawrence, Kansas, a visit. It had been a few years since the four-piece was last in town and even longer since they had headlined in Kansas, so the crowd was ready to dance the night away with the band after a long wait.

Around 15 years ago, a few teens in Ohio came together and started writing quirky pop rock music with a positive message under the moniker Relient K. Now the guys in Relient K have grown and the band’s lineup has changed, but the positivity and fun in their songs hasn’t changed. Now they have a whole new audience joining with their loyal, longtime fans. It was no surprise that the line to see this band in Lawrence, Kansas was wrapped around the Granada Theatre’s block. It also helped that Relient K is touring with the support of 3 other diverse and fantastic bands: The Almost, The Rocketboys and Driver Friendly.

“Happy Father’s Day, bastards.” That’s how Joshua Tillman opened his set at the Granada Sunday evening. Rather than offending the eager audience that chose to spend Father’s Day at a concert, Tillman was greeted by cheers. Lawrence had chosen to celebrate the holiday with a special Father — Father John Misty.
