Kansas City pledges allegiance to AWOLNATION

Kansas City pledges allegiance to AWOLNATION

| January 23, 2012 | 0 Comments

AWOLNATION has played countless radio shows in Kansas City this past year, but this time they were here on their own terms and headlining a show at the Beaumont. If you thought that KC had their AWOL fill, you’d be wrong. If there’s one thing the sold out Beaumont Club show proved, it is that Kansas City pledges their allegiance to the AWOLNATION. If there’s a second thing the sold out Beaumont Club show proved, it’s that AWOLNATION is very deserving of that allegiance.

Flogging Molly had to cancel their holiday Kansas City performance, but the other bands on the bill — Matt & Kim, Company of Thieves and locals Antennas Up — stepped up and made sure that no one would leave Wednesday’s Midland show disappointed. Wednesday was the explosive finale to the three-part Night the Buzz Stole Xmas radio show series.

Florence+the Machine, Two Door Cinema Club & Cowboy Indian Bear at 96.5 the Buzz’s Midland holiday concert easily the best Christmas present ever

The magic of the holiday season engulfed the Midland Monday night in Kansas City as dulcet sounds filled the air. No, there wasn’t a choir of angels singing heralds about the season, but the voice of Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine might be the closest thing to an angels voice that anyone could hope to hear. Sprinkle in opening acts Cowboy Indian Bear and Two Door Cinema Club and you have yourself a concert that’s the best Christmas present ever.

Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers took the stage at The Bottleneck (Lawrence Kansas music staple) on November 30th with John McLaughlin for the Boys Only Plus Girls Tour. Kansas City welcomes back former locals Mates of State with sold out show

A sold out sign greeted fans outside the RecordBar for the Mates of State show, leaving a handful of people left outside with shocked expressions. Perhaps back in the day when Mates of State were just a mere local Kansas City/Lawrence band, there would have been plenty of tickets still available, but Mates of State have come a long way since their humble Midwest beginnings. For those with the foresight to purchase advance tickets, they were treated to a fun, feel good show with lots of dancing.

There must be something in the water in Liverpool because that city produces some of the most amazing bands. We all know that Liverpool has given us the Beatles, but the great city has also given the world The Wombats. The UK trio performed their synth pop tunes in Kansas City Wednesday night at the RecordBar and were accompanied by The Static Jacks and The Postelles.

They Might Be Giants, Gold Motel give Kansas City the perfect Palindrome Day party

11.02.2011 is a palindrome day and there was no better way to celebrate this rare palindrome holiday than with a performance from a band clever enough to write a song about palindromes. Kansas City lucked out on Palindrome Day with a Beaumont Club concert featuring plenty of math and trivia-filled songs from They Might Be Giants.
