The nominations are in. This year’s Academy Award Host Seth MacFarlane joined with actress Emma Stone to announce the 2013 Oscar nominees. “Lincoln” led with the most nominations, earning 12 nods including Best Picture and Best Director. 

There wasn’t anything too surprising in the nominations, but there are some things to note. The exclusion of Ben Affleck as a Best Director nomination for “Argo” and the general lack of nominations for “The Master” are going to have some critics up in arms. Quvenzhane Wallis’ nomination for Best Actress makes her the youngest nominee ever in that category and her competition, Jennifer Lawrence, is now the youngest actress to ever receive two nominations in that category. Announcer and host Seth MacFarlane also received some recognition for his original song in “Ted.” This is the third time that a host has been recognized during that specific ceremony.

The Oscars air February 24 on ABC.

The 2012 Academy Awards are fast approaching. They’ll air on February 26, so you have a few weeks to catch up on viewing the nominated films.

This year’s batch includes a few expected nominees: “Hugo,” “The Artist,” “Moneyball,” and “The Descendants” all made out with several expected nominations, but there are also a few surprises. Late release “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close” made the Best Picture cut and only two songs were deemed worthy enough to make best original song nominations. Noticeably missing from that category is Golden Globe winner Madonna’s original song.
