“Safe Haven”: A Decent Choice For Valentine’s Day

“Safe Haven”: A Decent Choice For Valentine’s Day

| February 14, 2013 | 0 Comments

Overall, “Safe Haven” is not the worst romantic movie I’ve ever seen. However, it certainly is not as great as the all-time favorite Nicholas Sparks novel-turned-movie of every woman in the world, “The Notebook.”

This weekend, Gangster Squad hits theaters with an all-star cast that includes Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, and Giovanni Ribisi.  From the previews, I could already tell that while this movie may not come within a mile of any Oscar nominations, it definitely takes you on a thrill ride.  After seeing it, […]

This Christmas, moviegoers are presented with a few solid options opening in theaters: Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained”, the film adaptation of “Les Misérables”, and “Parental Guidance”.  One might think, “Hmm…one of these things is not like the others.”  But while “Parental Guidance” might not be the epic musical masterpiece that “Les Mis” promises to be; […]

“Premium Rush”: not premium, but still a rush

The opening scene of Joseph Gordon Levitt’s new movie, “Premium Rush,” is of him slowly flying through the air and landing with a crash on the pavement. What follows is a 90-minute thrill ride that is not the best ride I’ve been on, but certainly not the worst.

‘People Like Us’ Isn’t the Worst Movie Ever, But It Sure Ain’t the Best

Chris Pine and Elizabeth Banks have a new movie out Today, “People Like Us”.  And while it’s not the worst movie I’ve ever seen, it’s absolutely nowhere near the best.  Chris Pine plays Sam, who, when we first meet him, seems to have everything going for him.  He works facilitating barters and in the opening […]

Upon seeing the trailer for Seth MacFarlane’s first foray into film writing and directing, “Ted”, a few months ago, I immediately thought to myself, “Oh man, this is going to be great.”  Ladies and gentlemen, let’s give Seth MacFarlane a giant round of applause.  Not only is the man a comical genius in the television […]

‘Magic Mike’: 14- and 40-year-olds will love it

Okay, let me preface this review by saying I did not go into the screening of “Magic Mike” with very high expectations. A movie about male strippers? A movie about male strippers starring Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey? Something told me not to take this one too seriously. Oddly enough, (I mean, who could have seen this coming?) it was a great idea to not go into the theater expecting much of anything, because boy, oh boy, not much of anything is exactly what I got out of it.

‘The Lucky One’ Is One Giant Bore

When women give their lists of the hottest male actors under 25, you can bet Zac Efron will be found on most. But being pretty alone does not carry much weight, both in the case of Zac and of his newest flick, the film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ romantic novel “The Lucky One”.

“The Descendants” meets and surpasses expectations

“The Descendants” meets and surpasses expectations

When it comes to “The Descendants,” I’ll save you the guessing game: SEE IT. George Clooney, as Matt King, puts out one of his best performances, and in a role that is so unlike everything we’ve seen from him in the last several years.
