Release dates & titles announced for Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy
The release dates and official titles for the three films making up Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit” have been revealed. 
The trilogy kicks off this holiday season with “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” on December 14, 2012. Martin Freeman plays Bilbo, an ordinary hobbit on an extraordinary adventure that eventually finds him in possession of the one ring, which is the centerpiece of the already released “Lord of the Rings” trilogy.
The next installment will be released the following year on December 13, 2013. It will be called “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.” For those unfamiliar with the story, Smaug (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch) is a greedy, gold-hoarding dragon. The final film will a few months later with “The Hobbit” trilogy concluding July 18, 2014. This final film will be called “The Hobbit: There and Back Again.”
Shot in 3D 48 frames-per-second, the all parts of this trilogy will be released in High Frame Rate (HFR) 3D, other 3D formats, IMAX and 2D.
