With record store day fast approaching (as in tomorrow/Saturday April 21st) and my recent Netflix recommendation to watch Empire Records I decided it would be a great way to get my pre-celebration on by touching on some things that make this movie great.
Despite the fact that this movie is full of amazing quotes (and no I did not include them all), what is neat when watching it some 17 years after it was made is recognizing all of the actors from their more recent roles.
Anthony LaPaglia with long hair
I didn’t realize this until the 18,936th time watching this movie, that ‘”Joe” is totally the guy from ‘With out a Trace’, only with long hair, and also he plays the drums
Liv Tyler pre-Armageddon, Pre-elvish beauty from middle earth

Between the Rex Manning infatuation and the infamous flip out scene with Renee Zellweger. And also, I’m BRINGING REX HIS LUNCH!!!
Lucas, and all of his philosophical quotes

Despite the fact that he gambled away all of the stores money (luckily online gambling wasn’t big back in 1995- but they did have the internet back then, right?)
Most often quoted for “Damn the Man” and “ What’s with today today?”
“Well ‘Sinead O’Rebellion.’ Shock me shock me shock me with that deviant behavior.”
Renee Zellweger with a super short skrit and Robin Tunney with super short hair.
Ethan Embry as Mark
(or Marc with a c if we are referencing his band)

REX MANNING DAY
One of my friends forever named the day he went to the theaters to see this movie (January 15th) as Rex Manning Day.

So in addition to all of the typical lets buy music to celebrate music, you should dig out your Remix! Special Fan Edition DVD of Empire Records (if you are like me this is one of the first DVD’s you owned) sit back and enjoy.
Just don’t forget your thingy....
